Are you a lover of History? If your answer is “yes” you are going to enjoy our magnificent castle and spectacular views. Its design dates from the Muslim period between the 11th and 12th centuries. Since then, we can trace different reforms through its architecture. We may point out those from the Almohade period, the construction of the Red Tower and the Council’s Tower in the 15th century, the bastions and other Renaissance systems of defense, including the rebuilding of the Governor’s Palace in the 16th and 17th centuries, sponsored by the Duke of Lerma, Marquis of Denia. During the Spanish War of Succession (early 18th c.) the palace and the Villa Vella or Old City were destroyed and the abandonment of the military outpost in 1859 have defined the past few centuries.
There is a museum inside, on the top of the Castle. The museum has arranged its rooms according to the city’s development, from its earliest origins until the 18th Century, divided into 4 areas which correspond to the different ages of its development: Iberian Age, Roman Age, Muslim Age and Christian Age.
PEDESTRIAN ACCESS
Next to the Town Hall of Denia, you will find stairways on Hospital street which we walk up. After this 1st steps, we find another stairway section to the left on the street called “Cuesta Madre Amparo” which takes us directly to San Francisco street accessing the castle.
ASCENT IN THE TOURIST TRAIN
You can take the train (one service at 11.00h), TOURIST TRAIN stop is located on the street: Patricio Ferrándiz, very near to our money exchange office, don’t forget to change your money before, without commission and best rates.
The Castle open every day in:
• June: 10 a.m. to 7.30 p.m.
• From July to 15th September: 10 a.m. to 8.30 p.m. (Night opening hours: until 00.30 h. Except for “Music at the castle” concert days.
• From 16th to 30th September: 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
• October: From 10 a.m. to 6.30 p.m.
• Nov/ March: 10 a.m to 6 p.m
• April-May: 10 a.m to 19 p.m

EL CASTILLO DE DENIA
¿Eres un enamorado de la historia? Si tu respuesta es sí vas a disfrutar mucho de la visita a nuestro magnífico castillo y sus espectaculares vistas.
Su diseño se remonta a época islámica, entre los siglos XI y XII. Desde entonces, distintas reformas se reflejan en su arquitectura. Destacamos las de época almohade, la construcción de la Torre Roja y la Torre del Consell en el S. XV, los baluartes y otros sistemas defensivos estilo renacentista, así como la reedificación del Palacio del Gobernador, en los siglos XVI y XVII, bajo los auspicios del Duque de Lerma, Marqués de Denia. La destrucción del Palacio y de la Vila Vella durante la Guerra de Sucesión y el abandono de la plaza militar en el año 1859 definen los últimos siglos.
Acceso a pie: Junto al Ayuntamiento de Denia se hallan unas escaleras, en la C/ Hospital, que subiremos. Tras este 1º tramo, un poco hacia la izquierda hallamos otro tramo de escaleras, en la calle “cuesta Madre Amparo” que nos conducen directamente a la C/ San Francisco, por donde accedemos al castillo.
Tren turístico: Su parada se encuentra muy cerca de nuestras oficinas en la calle Patricio Ferrándiz, dirección al castillo solo tiene una salida a las 11.00h y una duración de una hora.
El castillo abre todos los días.
